Edge IX Birmingham has been established to facilitate public peering in the West Midlands. This important region, 2nd only to London in terms of economic importance, has been disadvantaged by the lack of an Internet Exchange.

Edge IX Birmingham allows it’s members to increase their network resilience, reduce latency and reduce backhaul traffic out of the region to London and Manchester.

The development of new services around IoT, manufacturing, healthcare, smart cities and others all benefit from the reduction of latency. As well as this the huge amounts of data being created can be stored and distributed locally so improving performance and costs.

5G services for IoT are forecast to play a huge part in this.
